Vestry

Generally, Episcopal congregations are governed by a shared responsibility between their rector and the Vestry. The Vestry at St. Thomas consists of Senior and Junior Wardens, members of the congregation elected each year, for three -year terms, by the congregation annually, the parish Treasurer and all clergy.

The Vestry is the legal representative of the parish in all matters concerning its corporate property and the relations of the Parish to its Clergy. The Vestry performs both secular and canonical responsibilities. As a body, the Vestry is responsible for the church's finances and resources; governance of the parish's business; the determination of appropriate programs, policies and procedures; and performance assessment. The Rector leads the Vestry.

At St. Thomas, our vestry members serve three-year terms and our Junior Warden serves a two- year elected term. The Senior Warden is selected and appointed by the Rector. Members of the Vestry may have committee responsibilities including education, worship, building & grounds and finance and liaison to other parish organizations such as the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) and Altar Guild.

Helen Clay (Directress),

The Altar Guild cares for the Altar and all items related to the presentation of sacraments for each service. It assists in the preparation of weddings, funerals, Holy Baptisms, Confirmation and other special occasions. The Altar Guild also performs other duties such as: care of vestments, altar linens, silver and brass, candles and other sacramental items. The most important task of the Altar Guild is the preparation of the Eucharist for all services held during the year. If you are interested in joining the Altar Guild, which has two teams that work alternate months, please contact St. Thomas at 732 747-1039.
